About me
My name is Georgina Hession and I am a Primary School Teacher based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I completed my Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree in 2015, and Masters of Education specialising in Literacy intervention in 2020 at The Australian Catholic University, Melbourne. My passion for creativity is something that motivates me, and is what lead me to choose a career in teaching. Nearing the end of my own schooling, I had no idea what I wanted to be. All I knew was that I wanted to create something. Teaching is a career that requires a great deal of creativity. Although many teacher's may not see themselves as artists, I believe that they are sculpting the minds of the students they teach. Each teacher brings something unique to the classroom, their own personal style. The teacher I am today comes from the variety of experiences I have been privileged to have in my life.
It was J.K Rowling's Harry Potter series which began my great love of reading. To this day my favourite genre remains fantasy, however it would not be uncommon to find me turning the pages of a classic, historical fiction or crime novel. This enthusiasm for literature is something I wish to share with my students, and is what has lead me to my post-graduate study in literacy intervention. It is a sad reality that what brings me such joy personally, can be a struggle for some students. I believe that my further study has better equipped as a teacher, to assist these children. |
I have always had a great appreciation for visual aesthetics, developed further from my travels to different countries. These experiences, along with my natural passion has lead to my great love of drawing and painting. A hobby that is still present in my life today. My appreciation for aesthetics is very evident in my conduct as a teacher. It can be seen in relation to the appearance of my classroom, the way I present and conduct myself professionally, and the way I expect my students to conduct themselves and present their work.
.Having studied Visual Communication and Design in high school, I continued my interest in aesthetics with the new found media of technology. Technology is very important in current teaching practice, and is a area where I have honed my skills. As a current Digital Technologies Specialist, I have a very strong knowledge of implementing a curriculum that is creative, and which utilises the ever growing list of technologies including: computers, tablets, robots, 3D printers, interactive white boards and smart T.V's. What started as a personal interest, has now evolved into an area of education that I am very passionate about.
My career in teaching so far has allowed me to share with students, my combined passion for creativity and
learning. I hope to continue my journey in education by adding to the teaching experiences I have had as a Grade One/Two Classroom Teacher in 2016, Casual Relief Teacher in 2017, Specialist Digital Technologies.
Teacher in 2018, Classroom Teaching in 2019, Visual Technologies Specialist (2020), Technology Leader (2019-2021), Grade 7 Humanities Teacher (Current) and Prep-Grade 8 Digital Technologies Teacher (Current). With the completion of my Masters in 2020, I am seeking full-time employment in Melbourne for 2022, as a Classroom Teacher to consolidate my learning.
